Travel Insurance for Europe from Nigeria
Europe and Schengen are not the same thing. Which countries fall where, which zone to buy for a multi-country trip, and the four benefits Schengen cover leaves out.
"Europe" and "Schengen" are not the same thing, and the gap between them is where Nigerian travellers get caught. Buy Schengen cover for a trip that includes London, and part of your journey sits outside the policy you bought.
This guide explains which European countries fall where, which zone to buy, and what each one actually pays. You can price your European itinerary whenever you are ready.
Europe is not Schengen
The Schengen area is a travel zone, not a continent. Several well-known European destinations sit outside it, and the United Kingdom and Ireland are the two Nigerian travellers encounter most.
That matters because our Schengen zone is built around the EUR 30,000 visa minimum for the Schengen area specifically. If your trip crosses into a non-Schengen European country, the worldwide zone is the match for the journey you are actually making.
- Inside Schengen, and covered by the Schengen zone: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Malta, among others.
- In Europe but outside Schengen: the United Kingdom and Ireland. These need worldwide cover.
- Turkey straddles Europe and Asia and is not in the Schengen area. Worldwide cover applies.
If any part of your itinerary sits outside the Schengen area, buy worldwide. It is the safer match and it carries higher limits in most categories, so price worldwide for a mixed route. The quote page prices both for your dates.

Four benefits exist on worldwide and not on Schengen at all: medical evacuation, emergency family travel, the extended hospitalisation benefit and loss of personal money. For a visa application into the Schengen area the Schengen zone is the correct product. For a multi-country European trip that leaves the area, it is not. Check both against your itinerary.
Multi-country trips
Rail and budget airlines make it easy to cross four countries in ten days, and easy to forget that your insurance was bought for one of them.
- List every country you will set foot in, including transit stops where you leave the airport.
- If all are inside Schengen, Schengen cover fits and meets the visa minimum.
- If any one is outside, buy worldwide for the whole trip.
- Do not buy two policies to cover two halves of one journey. Cover the whole trip once, for the full span of dates you enter at quote.
Delay cover is worth reading
European connections are tight and the disruption limits differ noticeably between zones. Trip delay pays up to EUR 500 at EUR 50 per six hours on worldwide, against EUR 300 at EUR 50 per twelve hours on Schengen. Missed departure or connection is EUR 500 against EUR 300.
In practice the Schengen delay benefit takes twice as long to begin accruing. On a trip built around short connections, that difference is more likely to matter than the headline medical figure. Both schedules are published with the quote.

Start Your ApplicationCommon questions
Is travel insurance for Europe the same as Schengen insurance?
No. The Schengen area is a travel zone, not the whole continent. The United Kingdom, Ireland and Turkey are in Europe but outside the Schengen area, and those trips need worldwide cover.
Which zone do I need for a multi-country European trip?
If every country is inside the Schengen area, Schengen cover fits and meets the EUR 30,000 visa minimum. If any one country sits outside it, buy worldwide cover for the whole trip.
What does Schengen cover not include?
Medical evacuation, emergency family travel, the extended hospitalisation benefit and loss of personal money are not covered on the Schengen zone. All four exist on worldwide.
Can I buy two policies for one trip?
You should not try to cover half a journey with one policy and half with another. Cover the whole trip once, with the zone that matches the full route.
How much is medical cover for a European trip?
EUR 30,000 on the Schengen zone, which meets the visa minimum, and EUR 35,000 on worldwide. Both carry a EUR 50 excess and include treatment for COVID-19.
What if my flight is delayed in Europe?
Trip delay pays up to EUR 500 at EUR 50 per six hours on worldwide, and up to EUR 300 at EUR 50 per twelve hours on Schengen. Keep your airline documentation as evidence.
